Showering Princess Madalynn <3

So my Mom put together a shower in honor of our soon-to-be baby girl Madalynn Autumn. It was thrown at my favorite restaurant here in Greensboro, Mimi’s Cafe. It was so perfect! I had so much fun and felt so loved! One of the most important things that I have learned during this journey of Motherhood is that having an awesome support system is extremely important. Thank God I am blessed enough to have an amazing support system behind myself and my blooming family. The Lord is good!

I was so happy to see my guest! So many of my amazingly supportive friends and family were there with smiling faces as I walked through the door. I was greeted warmly, everyone that was there wanted to be there to support me and I was happy!

Madalynn was fortunate enough to receive a lot of the things that she needed and plenty of items that I really wanted for her. Going from having a boy to having a girl is a little bit of a challenge. I could tell you all day long how to dress a boy from Fall till Summer but being that I’ve never had the pleasure of building a wardrobe for a little girl I was a little clueless in certain areas in the beginning. Thankfully I have ones near and dear to me that have little girls and were more than happy to point me in the right direction with getting started with Madalynn’s attire.

I went back and fourth about whither or not I actually wanted a shower this go ’round. Immediately after we found out our little bundle was a girl we started to prepare for her. I figured I would need to replace just about everything. I’m a SAHM so I knew I would be on a budget and would have to hunt down deals so I didn’t waste any time, I got right on it! After searching out a few gently used items for my sweet girl people began throwing baby items our way. I’m not talking about things that probably should have been in the trash, these were NICE items! I was sooo happy! I couldn’t believe that some one whom I’d JUST met would just give away some of this stuff! Like really? You want to GIVE this to me? Yes please! TYJ!

My sweet friend Tianna kept inquiring about my baby shower, I informed her that my Mom had offered to throw one for me but I wasn’t really sure if we should go through with it. I mean it was my second child, how many showers are you “allowed” to have? Lol! She pushed the envelope and basically told me that I WAS having a shower and that it didn’t matter what number child this was. She contacted my Mom and they started to plan. Another sweet friend of mine, Comfort, had also been talking to my Mom about a shower for me so they decided to do it. Looking back I’m really glad that I agreed to it! It was much needed! Being a SAHM is a sacrifice. More so on the behalf of the Mother, you go without so much just so your children can have what they need and can be treated from time to time with things that they want. This baby shower was a blessing to my family. Every item we received was one less item my husband would have to purchase for her. We’re blessed to have people in our lives that are willing to celebrate our unborn and shower her with love before ever meeting her.

Our Princess is set! There isn’t one thing she “needs” of course as her mother there are plenty of things I still want her to have, but I thank God I am able to say that her immediate needs are met. TGBTG! I would like to say thank you to My Mother! Mom you are such a rock in my life! I can always depend on your for support and correction! At 28yo I realized that I still need my Mother, to lead and guide me down this path called life. Thanks for always being there for me! I can not wait to experience that relationship with Madalynn! To Comfort and Tianna, thanks for always having my back! Duly note that I am forever in your corner! ❤

To those who ventured to my shower, traveling near and far, words can never express how grateful I was to see your smiling faces! Thank you for your gift and for you time! You could have been anywhere else doing anything else but you came to support myself and my family! Thank You! ❤

Fall Consigning 2014

I had entirely too much fun consigning this year! I decided to not only shop but to actually sell some of Matthew’s clothing he had out grown. In addition to that I volunteered at two sales this year instead of just the one I normally do in the spring. I can honestly say that this made a big difference in my shopping experience and over all outcome! I learned that the people who shop early are really the ones who walk away with the best deals. Seriously, there were really great fairly priced items available at the pre-sale that had I not gotten to shop early would have gotten snatched up before I ever got a chance to lay eyes on it! –I’m a SAHM and would like to be for as long as possible! This is one of the ways I save money & keep my family looking good!

The sales I attended this year here in Greensboro, NC were:

Trinity Tots to Teens Consignment

Fall First Kids Consignment

& Kids Konsignment

I first found out about consignment sales during a prenatal yoga class when I was about 7 months pregnant with my sweet Matthew. My instructor was a member of the church that was hosting Kids Konsignment Sale and invited us all to come. Being a new Mom I had never heard of “consignment sales” so after seeing the other ladies light up with excitement after she mentioned it, I was immediately intrigued. I mentioned it to a few friends of mine who were also expecting little bundles of their own and we were all eager to find some gently used items for our soon-to-be bambinos! The first go round I was hooked! I came home with so many nice items for my Matthew! My Mother tagged along with me to a few others that year and we were immediately addicted! From that moment to this one I have been and will forever be a shameless-consignment-sale-junkie! ❤

Fast-forward to this year. I was soooo happy with my finds! Especially considering the fact that I had to sort through clothes for a toddler boy wearing a 3T and a newborn girl who could possibly hit a growth spurt in the middle of the winter. Boy was I on a mission! Im proud to say that I got it done though! Hubs was excited to see the items I purchased especially after giving him my totals. My Mom called me a “virtuous woman” which made me feel pretty darn awesome! I was pleased with what I accomplished and was happy that my children had what they needed entering into the cooler months.

For Handsome Matthew (22 months & size 3T; prices rounded)

I kinda hit the jackpot for this kid! Anyone that knows me knows that I am very, VERY particular about what my Matthew wears! I refuse to put just any ol thing on him! He is my pride&JOY I get so much pleasure out of seeing him look good! So I was extremely pleased (as I always am) with my consignment finds for him!

IZOD blue blazer $6

Minnetoka Brown Moccs $4

8 pair of assorted jeans and khaki’s totaling $21

Gap light blue winter coat $6

Timberland boots $7

Top Slider Sperry’s $5

All these items for my sweet boy came up to $69! Ha! Picture trying to purchase all of these items brand new and coming up with that price! No clearance rack or coupons could ever achieve such!

I’ve since added a few more items to his wardrobe. But this was a really nice start for a boy who couldn’t wear any of his clothing from the previous cool season(s).

For Miss Madalynn (Sizes ranging from newborn – 6 months; prices rounded)

I had so much fun sifting through the baby girl clothes! I mean, goodness! I’ve never really shopped for a girl. I’m pretty much surrounded by little boys at the moment [and loving it]! I just didn’t realize how cute little girls clothes can be! I’ve never really saw girl clothes that I LOVED! Never! Sure i’ve seen cute pieces; but most are in a cheesy I’m getting ready for bed type of way! When I found out I was having a girl I went straight to Target! Mostly looking trying to figure out “how am I going to dress this child?” I would say that I was a little satisfied with the items that I picked up, however I was extremely excited about what I found while consigning!

3M Ruffled Pink Jacket $2

0-3M knitted cover up $1

3 EUC Aden and Anais blankets (wait for it) $6!!!

Baby girl’s items totaled $39 for the WIN! I was so pleased with my finds for her! I’ve really wanted to try the aden and anais brand especially since so many moms swear by it! I’ve noticed that they are kind of thin and very breathable! Which is nice for a little that may love to be swaddled but gets too hot in cotton receiving blankets. — Can you tell that I love corduroy!? If I see it, its as good as gone! I love corduroy on my littles! Love it! So glad that I was able to find so many corduroy pieces for little of nothing! The jackets were also an added bonus! Those are so important and are something people often overlook when shopping for a baby. I’m not at all mad at the steal I got on those sleepers! $.50? I’ll take them all please!

Pictured Below was the highlight of my trip! I was so happy to find this! While visiting a friend for a playdate Matthew exclaimed he had to potty. We rushed to the bathroom in the nick-of-time and he went (proud potty training Mama)! Afterward he noticed that there was a stepping stool under the sink and rushed over to use it to turn on the water and get soap on his own. He was so proud of himself afterwards, in that moment I knew I had to get him one of his own. When I passed by it I grabbed it up so fast! I was like a kid in a candy store! Mom Life! Ha!

White Stepping stool in EUC for both my babes to use! $6

White Stepping stool in EUC for both my babes to use! $6

My totals for this years fall consignment combined totaled $118 (rounded). Mind you this was for two children! My goal is normally $60 so I did pretty good! This was a great start! I never go in expecting to buy clothes for the whole season. I know there will be plenty of trips to Target and Once Upon A Child to finish them off. Along with searching through sales racks at Old Navy and Carter’s/ Osh Kosh until they have everything they need!

Interested in doing some consigning? Here’s a great way to get started: visit ! Here you will find a list of consignment sales in your area. Fall consignment sales are usually from August-September; Spring consignment sales normally start in February-March. ❤

I sold clothes with one of my favorite consignment sales Trinity Tots to Teens Consignment Sale this year! It was an experience! Hanging, pricing, and tagging clothes is a lot more tedious than I ever expected! However the outcome was worth it! I sold 80% of the clothing I took to the sale which totaled $74! WIN!

Festive Shrimp Spring Rolls

spring roll 11

Who doesn’t love a really good egg roll or spring roll? I know I do! What I love better is being able to create my own versions with lots of different varieties right in my own kitchen! As a bonus these spring rolls are fresher and healthier than the versions you’ll find in most restaurants! Enjoy!

Prep Time: 30 mins

Cook Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 25 mins

Yields: about a dozen spring rolls

1 pkg. steamed deveined shrimp

1/2 TBSP fresh garlic

2 cups fresh spinach

2 cup red cabbage (shredded)

2 cups carrots (shredded)

1 cups mushrooms

1 pkg. spring/ egg roll wrappers (thawed if frozen)

1 Lg. egg

oil for frying

S&P to taste

1. Place cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, and spinach in a steamer. Add salt and pepper to taste and let steam for about 7 mins. After 7 mins check firmness of vegetables. If at desired firmness remove from steamer and add vegetables to wok along with garlic for 3 mins. Take off heat and sit it to the side to cool.

6. To fry, place oil in a deep sided frying pan (about 1 inch deep) over medium heat. Oil will start to form snake like lines at the bottom of the pan, this is an indication the oil is heating up. To test add the end of one spring roll to the pan if it begins to sizzle and cook its ready. Cook for 1 minute on each side or until golden brown. Using tongs to remove from the oil onto parchment paper, paper towel, or clean dish towel to drain.

7. Serve HOT & Enjoy!!
