Matthew turns TWO!

From day one Matthew has been growing in Leaps and Bounds! His growth and abilities never cease to amaze me! I really am in love with the toddler phase of his life. I adore watching him explore and learn new things about the world around him! Watching his eyes light up and the excitement on his face that follows after he learns how to do something for the first time. He lives for adventure! Completely fearless and always wanting to try new things, he definitely gets that from his Mother! Matthew is such a joy to be around, everyone is always intrigued with his smile and capabilities! Everybody loves Matthew! Its kinda hard not to! He’s a lovable kid.

November 7, 2014

Just like the year before we wanted to celebrate Matt’s birthday on the actual day of his birthday. Hubby took the day off and we decided to do something simple and intimate instead of making a big to-do. I’m 34 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 and didn’t feel up to having people over. Additionally, we were not interested in shelling out the extra cash for a party this year. We went all out for his birthday last year, that should hold him for a while! 😀 Further more it was Matthew’s last “hoo-rah” as our only child and so it was a day we wanted to share only with family.

IMG_1097 IMG_1098 IMG_1099

For Matthew’s 1st birthday I decided to start a few family traditions that I would continue on doing each year. Not only for him but for our future children to come. I started what I called “Birthday Pancakes” which consist of a pancake in the shape of the number congruent with his age.

IMG_0958 IMG_0963 IMG_0964

So this year I carried on with the number two! Boy was it hard! I thought to myself “what have I gotten myself into?” However, I was determined to do it! I finally figured it out after about 6 tries! Matthew still has a thing for sweet potatoes, so I decided to make these sweet potato pancakes as well. He devoured it and begged for more, just like last year! So proud of his fine motor skill development. He now cuts his own (soft) food with his toddler knife and fork. Amazing the difference a year makes.

People often ask me what is a “Birthday Bath”? It’s a CatheyFamilyTradition, duh! I guess I made it up! I’m always doing sensory baths for Matt, the bathtub is his happy place. So i’ve often brought a lot of texture and color to his baths and he has always enjoyed it. So, I decided that I would do a sensory bath for his birthday each year and include whatever it was that he was interested in or enjoyed playing with. So this is where the idea for a “Birthday Bath” came from. Its just a sensory bath done on his birthday each year. For his first birthday I did balloons and ball pit balls! He was in heaven! He loved balloons and balls at the time and had a blast in the tub that morning!

Dinosaurs are the way to Matthew’s heart these days! When I say he LOVES them, I’m not exaggerating. He’s obsessed! I bought him a T-rex on a whim while in Wal-mart one day just because. I figured he would like it. Boys like dinosaurs, right? Little did I know I would be starting a future attachment to these reptiles! So without question it was the theme for his 2nd birthday bath!

For the backdrop I used washable paint by crayola. To color the water I used blue food coloring. The birthday sign I found at dollar tree for $1! The dinosaurs we already had! I actually scored them at a consignment sale for $1!

IMG_0970 IMG_0981 IMG_0974

Matthew was ecstatic when I opened the door and let him see what was on the other side! He gasped and shouted “DINO-STOORREESS”! I adore the way he says that! He stayed in the tube for HOURS! We were supposed to head out to enjoy his birthday festivities around 11am but because he wanted to stay in the bath so long we postponed it to 2pm! The night prior I stayed up way past 4am painting the backdrop for his bath, assembling his gifts and preparing my kitchen and homemade pancake batter for the next morning! I forgot all about the fact that I was 34 weeks pregnant and was like go-go gadget around my house! Running off of pure adrenaline I was focused and determined to get it all done!

Birthday gift he woke up to! He ran right up to it and started playing!

After getting dressed and measuring my sweet boy we headed out to Safari Nation. This being one of the few toddler attractions that Matthew had not visited here in Greensboro I was excited to take him.

IMG_1117 IMG_1116 IMG_1115 IMG_1114Matthew & Gavin [my nephew, and Matt’s best buddy]had a blast! Hubby was hanging right in there with them! It was the cutest sight! I watched them play for hours! Never getting tired or hungry, they just wanted to keep going and going! Here and there my sister and I would join them in one of the bouncy houses. I remained seated mostly as not to harm Miss Madalynn, my yummy Nephew Nehemiah wouldn’t let me out of his view. He’s so loveable, his attachment to me since I’ve been pregnant has been adorable. He always seeks me out and gives Auntie all the hugs and kisses! Sweet boy!

IMG_1109 IMG_1113 IMG_1107 IMG_1016 IMG_1108 IMG_1111 IMG_1112IMG_1015IMG_1106IMG_1105IMG_1104IMG_1103IMG_1107IMG_1011IMG_1019IMG_1020IMG_1023

We arrived at Safari Nation around 2:00p and didnt leave until almost 6:00p. We stayed so long that my Mom was able to get off work and travel from Durham and meet us there to spend time playing with Matthew. She’s such an amazing Grandmother! It’s not hard to see why her Grandchildren are CRAZY about her!

It was near closing time so we decided to head out and get dinner. We traveled to the closest restaurant we could find seeing as how I was growing weak from being so hungry. We stopped at a Mexican restaurant not far from Safari Nation. We were extremely pleased with dinner, Hubby & I plan to return there soon.

Matthew enjoyed a beef and cheese taco with fries. He ate himself full and then jumped into his Daddy’s arms and exclaimed really loudly, “nite nite”. Within 5 minutes he was out! I think its safe to say that he had an amazing yet tiring day!

IMG_1120 IMG_1121

Luckily everyone was done with their entree’s. We bagged up the leftovers, paid the bill and headed out. Hubby wanted to take big guy home to lay him down so the two of them headed home. My Mom and I ventured to Maxi B’s to get cake and cupcakes to take back home. While we were out I scored a beautiful dress on clearance at Motherhood to wear in my maternity photo shoot the next day! Win! We went back to the house and waited for Matthew to get up from his nap. We then gave him his birthday cupcake which was chocolate moose with strawberry cream cheese icing. My original thought was to sit him at the table and let him have at it. But, of course his Grandma wasn’t having it! She wanted to feed it to him! She loves catering to her boys! ❤

The rest of the night was spent watching Matthew play with his toys and continue to open his gifts. He was so excited and kept ooo’ing and ahhhh’ing! Cuteness! My Mom got him an outfit to wear that Sunday to church and the shoes to match. He was sharp per the usual!

That’s how we celebrated Matthew’s 2nd birthday! 24 whole months he has graced us with his presence! I have really enjoyed being this little boys Mom! All the highs and lows have been worth it, because he is worth it! Happy Birthday Dear Son! Mommy Loves you! ❤

Showering Princess Madalynn <3

So my Mom put together a shower in honor of our soon-to-be baby girl Madalynn Autumn. It was thrown at my favorite restaurant here in Greensboro, Mimi’s Cafe. It was so perfect! I had so much fun and felt so loved! One of the most important things that I have learned during this journey of Motherhood is that having an awesome support system is extremely important. Thank God I am blessed enough to have an amazing support system behind myself and my blooming family. The Lord is good!

IMG_0730 IMG_0727 IMG_0726 IMG_0719

IMG_0732 IMG_0734 IMG_0769 IMG_0770

I was so happy to see my guest! So many of my amazingly supportive friends and family were there with smiling faces as I walked through the door. I was greeted warmly, everyone that was there wanted to be there to support me and I was happy!

IMG_0789 IMG_0902 IMG_0808 IMG_0802 IMG_0905 IMG_0904

Madalynn was fortunate enough to receive a lot of the things that she needed and plenty of items that I really wanted for her. Going from having a boy to having a girl is a little bit of a challenge. I could tell you all day long how to dress a boy from Fall till Summer but being that I’ve never had the pleasure of building a wardrobe for a little girl I was a little clueless in certain areas in the beginning. Thankfully I have ones near and dear to me that have little girls and were more than happy to point me in the right direction with getting started with Madalynn’s attire.

IMG_4440 bsh2

I went back and fourth about whither or not I actually wanted a shower this go ’round. Immediately after we found out our little bundle was a girl we started to prepare for her. I figured I would need to replace just about everything. I’m a SAHM so I knew I would be on a budget and would have to hunt down deals so I didn’t waste any time, I got right on it! After searching out a few gently used items for my sweet girl people began throwing baby items our way. I’m not talking about things that probably should have been in the trash, these were NICE items! I was sooo happy! I couldn’t believe that some one whom I’d JUST met would just give away some of this stuff! Like really? You want to GIVE this to me? Yes please! TYJ!

IMG_0726 IMG_0803 IMG_0809

My sweet friend Tianna kept inquiring about my baby shower, I informed her that my Mom had offered to throw one for me but I wasn’t really sure if we should go through with it. I mean it was my second child, how many showers are you “allowed” to have? Lol! She pushed the envelope and basically told me that I WAS having a shower and that it didn’t matter what number child this was. She contacted my Mom and they started to plan. Another sweet friend of mine, Comfort, had also been talking to my Mom about a shower for me so they decided to do it. Looking back I’m really glad that I agreed to it! It was much needed! Being a SAHM is a sacrifice. More so on the behalf of the Mother, you go without so much just so your children can have what they need and can be treated from time to time with things that they want. This baby shower was a blessing to my family. Every item we received was one less item my husband would have to purchase for her. We’re blessed to have people in our lives that are willing to celebrate our unborn and shower her with love before ever meeting her.

Our Princess is set! There isn’t one thing she “needs” of course as her mother there are plenty of things I still want her to have, but I thank God I am able to say that her immediate needs are met. TGBTG! I would like to say thank you to My Mother! Mom you are such a rock in my life! I can always depend on your for support and correction! At 28yo I realized that I still need my Mother, to lead and guide me down this path called life. Thanks for always being there for me! I can not wait to experience that relationship with Madalynn! To Comfort and Tianna, thanks for always having my back! Duly note that I am forever in your corner! ❤

To those who ventured to my shower, traveling near and far, words can never express how grateful I was to see your smiling faces! Thank you for your gift and for you time! You could have been anywhere else doing anything else but you came to support myself and my family! Thank You! ❤

Fall Consigning 2014

I had entirely too much fun consigning this year! I decided to not only shop but to actually sell some of Matthew’s clothing he had out grown. In addition to that I volunteered at two sales this year instead of just the one I normally do in the spring. I can honestly say that this made a big difference in my shopping experience and over all outcome! I learned that the people who shop early are really the ones who walk away with the best deals. Seriously, there were really great fairly priced items available at the pre-sale that had I not gotten to shop early would have gotten snatched up before I ever got a chance to lay eyes on it! –I’m a SAHM and would like to be for as long as possible! This is one of the ways I save money & keep my family looking good!

The sales I attended this year here in Greensboro, NC were:

Trinity Tots to Teens Consignment

Fall First Kids Consignment

& Kids Konsignment

I first found out about consignment sales during a prenatal yoga class when I was about 7 months pregnant with my sweet Matthew. My instructor was a member of the church that was hosting Kids Konsignment Sale and invited us all to come. Being a new Mom I had never heard of “consignment sales” so after seeing the other ladies light up with excitement after she mentioned it, I was immediately intrigued. I mentioned it to a few friends of mine who were also expecting little bundles of their own and we were all eager to find some gently used items for our soon-to-be bambinos! The first go round I was hooked! I came home with so many nice items for my Matthew! My Mother tagged along with me to a few others that year and we were immediately addicted! From that moment to this one I have been and will forever be a shameless-consignment-sale-junkie! ❤

Fast-forward to this year. I was soooo happy with my finds! Especially considering the fact that I had to sort through clothes for a toddler boy wearing a 3T and a newborn girl who could possibly hit a growth spurt in the middle of the winter. Boy was I on a mission! Im proud to say that I got it done though! Hubs was excited to see the items I purchased especially after giving him my totals. My Mom called me a “virtuous woman” which made me feel pretty darn awesome! I was pleased with what I accomplished and was happy that my children had what they needed entering into the cooler months.

For Handsome Matthew (22 months & size 3T; prices rounded)

I kinda hit the jackpot for this kid! Anyone that knows me knows that I am very, VERY particular about what my Matthew wears! I refuse to put just any ol thing on him! He is my pride&JOY I get so much pleasure out of seeing him look good! So I was extremely pleased (as I always am) with my consignment finds for him!

Pictured below:

White Thermal $1

Osk Kosh sweater with buttoned cow neck collar $3

Teal Gap Sweater $2

Osk Kosh Green and Blue Stripped sweater $4

Cordaroy black blazer $4

Osh Kosh Plaid button up w/ matching bubble vest $6

IZOD blue blazer $6

Minnetoka Brown Moccs $4

8 pair of assorted jeans and khaki’s totaling $21

Gap light blue winter coat $6

Timberland boots $7

Top Slider Sperry’s $5

All these items for my sweet boy came up to $69! Ha! Picture trying to purchase all of these items brand new and coming up with that price! No clearance rack or coupons could ever achieve such!

I’ve since added a few more items to his wardrobe. But this was a really nice start for a boy who couldn’t wear any of his clothing from the previous cool season(s).

For Miss Madalynn (Sizes ranging from newborn – 6 months; prices rounded)

I had so much fun sifting through the baby girl clothes! I mean, goodness! I’ve never really shopped for a girl. I’m pretty much surrounded by little boys at the moment [and loving it]! I just didn’t realize how cute little girls clothes can be! I’ve never really saw girl clothes that I LOVED! Never! Sure i’ve seen cute pieces; but most are in a cheesy I’m getting ready for bed type of way! When I found out I was having a girl I went straight to Target! Mostly looking trying to figure out “how am I going to dress this child?” I would say that I was a little satisfied with the items that I picked up, however I was extremely excited about what I found while consigning!

Pictured Below:

3M Gap Burnt Orange Corduroy Dress $2

3M Brown & Pink Corduroy Jumper Dress $2

Brand new NB carters head bands $1

3M Corduroy Pink Bubble Skirt $2

3M Corduroy Maroon Skirt $3

3M Pink Dress w/diaper cover and matching shoes $4

Brand new size 2 Stripped shoes $4

Pink and Cheetah print size 1 shoes $2

One size turquoise ruffled diaper cover $3

An assortment of sleepers sizes NB-6M priced at $.50-$1 totaling $5

3-6M Gap Purple Jacket $3

3M Ruffled Pink Jacket $2

NB handmade crocheted sweater $3

0-3M knitted cover up $1

3 EUC Aden and Anais blankets (wait for it) $6!!!

Baby girl’s items totaled $39 for the WIN! I was so pleased with my finds for her! I’ve really wanted to try the aden and anais brand especially since so many moms swear by it! I’ve noticed that they are kind of thin and very breathable! Which is nice for a little that may love to be swaddled but gets too hot in cotton receiving blankets. — Can you tell that I love corduroy!? If I see it, its as good as gone! I love corduroy on my littles! Love it! So glad that I was able to find so many corduroy pieces for little of nothing! The jackets were also an added bonus! Those are so important and are something people often overlook when shopping for a baby. I’m not at all mad at the steal I got on those sleepers! $.50? I’ll take them all please!

Pictured Below was the highlight of my trip! I was so happy to find this! While visiting a friend for a playdate Matthew exclaimed he had to potty. We rushed to the bathroom in the nick-of-time and he went (proud potty training Mama)! Afterward he noticed that there was a stepping stool under the sink and rushed over to use it to turn on the water and get soap on his own. He was so proud of himself afterwards, in that moment I knew I had to get him one of his own. When I passed by it I grabbed it up so fast! I was like a kid in a candy store! Mom Life! Ha!

White Stepping stool in EUC for both my babes to use! $6

White Stepping stool in EUC for both my babes to use! $6

My totals for this years fall consignment combined totaled $118 (rounded). Mind you this was for two children! My goal is normally $60 so I did pretty good! This was a great start! I never go in expecting to buy clothes for the whole season. I know there will be plenty of trips to Target and Once Upon A Child to finish them off. Along with searching through sales racks at Old Navy and Carter’s/ Osh Kosh until they have everything they need!

Interested in doing some consigning? Here’s a great way to get started: visit ! Here you will find a list of consignment sales in your area. Fall consignment sales are usually from August-September; Spring consignment sales normally start in February-March. ❤

I sold clothes with one of my favorite consignment sales Trinity Tots to Teens Consignment Sale this year! It was an experience! Hanging, pricing, and tagging clothes is a lot more tedious than I ever expected! However the outcome was worth it! I sold 80% of the clothing I took to the sale which totaled $74! WIN!
