In any business, you have to have people to talk to. You can either share info about your business with people you know (your “warm market”), or you can use advertising to attract people you don’t know. These people are referred to as “leads”. I use leads to work my business, and I am sure that most of you in a home based business do exactly the same thing.
Lead Generation
You can either advertise your site, join a co-op (a group of people that pay for an ad together), or buy leads that have already requested info. I recommend that you find a good advertising spot. It may take a little work, but once you find one, you’ll have a nice supply of leads that are not too costly.
Free Advertising
A lot of people come in and want to do free advertising. It really is simple to do free advertising, but as with any advertising, results are not guaranteed. And it’s a little time consuming. This category basically consists of writing articles and posting messages in chat rooms or on message boards. Be sure to follow all rules outlined by article sites. Some boards do not allow advertising, so make sure you read their rules. If they don’t allow advertising, you can sometimes use a signature or you may be able to look for messages from other people saying that they are looking to work from home (be sure to check this is ok with forum riles). You can answer back with “Advertising isn’t allowed on this board, but I would love to tell you about the company I work with. You can email me at _______ for more info”.
Low Cost Advertising
Low cost advertising can be very effective, but it still takes some time on your part. An example of low cost advertising is business cards. You can get some free business cards at Vistaprint (you pay a few $$ for shipping and get 250+ cards). Hang these cards up on area bulletin boards, drop them on the shelves on the grocery store, put a magnet on the back and stick them on people’s mailboxes, etc. You can also pass out flyers, brochures, etc.
Internet Advertising
Do some searches on moms, pregnancy, babies, children, work at home moms, stay at home moms, etc. You are going to find millions of websites. Take a look at the website. They probably have banners on the top of the page and button ads on the sides. Maybe they send out a weekly newsletter? All of these are advertising opportunities. If you like the look of the website, request advertising info. The prices range, so if you cannot afford it by yourself, you can open up a co-op.
Print Advertising
Baby and family magazines, newspapers, etc are all different forms of print advertising. There will be a number to call for rates.
Ad Wording
I definitely encourage you to get creative and create some ads of your own, but to get you started; here are a couple sample ads:
