Meaning and Symbolization of Colors in the Bible

Color Meaning
Amber Symbolizes the glory of God. One of the more commonly used colors in the Bible. Prov 7:9, Job 30:30, SoS 5:11, etc.
Black Symbolizes sin, death, and famine. Jer 4:28, Joel 2:10, Zec 6:2, Rev 6:5, Esther 1:6
Blue Described the color of a wound, but may refer to the wound itself. It also describes the sky, Heaven, and the Holy Spirit. Prov 20:30
Brown A dark, blackish color referred to only to sheep. Gen 30:32-33, 35, 40
Crimson Often refers to blood atonement and sacrifice. Crimson linen was used in the Temple. 2 Chron 2:7,14, 13:14, Jer 4:30, Isa 1:8
Gold As gold is the highest, most precious metal, so the divine nature is the highest nature, the only nature having immortality. Ex 28:36, Psa 21:3
Gray Used ONLY to describe the hair of the elderly. Gen 42:38
Green Most often associated with the meaning of growth. Normally described vegetation, pastures, herbs, trees, marriage bed. Psa 23:2, 2 Kings 19:26, SoS 1:16
Purple Symbolizes kinship and royalty. Most precious of ancient dyes. Made from 250,000 mollusks. Highly valued in nation of Israel. Ex 26:1-27:16, 2 Chron 2:14, Judges 8:26, Prov 31:22, Luke 16:19, Mark 15:17, 20
Red The color of blood, often symbolizes life. It also suggests bloodshed in the carnage of war. Gen 25:30, Prov 23:31, Gen 25:25, Prov 23:29
Scarlet Often refers to blood atonement and sacrifice. 2 Sam 1:24, Prov 31:21, Rev 17:3,4
Silver Used to represent the truth. Psa 12:6
White Portrays purity, righteousness, joy, light, and a white horse symbolizes Victory. Gen, Rev, Ex
Yellow Indicated the greenish cast of gold (Psa 68:13) and the light colored hair in a leprous spot (Lev 13:30,32)
